WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
Perry, I thought you were one of the moderators. You should be for all that you're doing. I don't think anyone is complaining about the English in films. As you say, that is showing how India is today and I also don't think that anyone is complaining about English used now and then in songs but when about half a song is in English, can we really call that a Tamil song? We listen to Tamil songs because we like hearing the language. How much of the language can we learn from Excuse me Mr Kanthasamy. BUT maybe I feel too strongly about this because you're right. At the end of the day it is all about personal choice and what each person likes. I made it clear what I like and don't like so maybe I should shut up on this issue and let others have their say. Wink

Did anyone go to the Thegaraja Bagavatar concert yesterday. Does anyone know if any of his songs were remixed or is that too long ago.
MKT TRibute
You can see a full report on the Udhayam site.

The song "Thee Pidikka Thee Pdikka" from Vishnu Vardhan's ARINDHUM ARIYAAMALUM uses original bits from MKT's song "Bhoomiyil Maanida".

I know that song and listen to it to a lot but I didn't know that was Thyagaraja Bagavathar.

Some of the very old songs are very nice. I was so surprised when I heard Oh little flower from Quickgun Murugan. Someone else in the forum also mentioned it. If remixes are done like this, I don't think people will mind watching the old films. Does anyone know in which film the original song comes from?

The "ringtones" were also great.

I know that some of the new albums have 2 versions of some songs. One original and one remix. Does anyone know any such album?
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
There have been many but what currently comes to mind is MUTHIRAI.

I have an album called MGR 2000 which I bought some years back from Roopanands. That was an unusual remix where they had the original tune and words but they were sung to new music of A.R.Rahmaan. I know one of the songs has the same music as Oruvan Oruvan from Muthu. Have there been other albums like that?
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
I have that one too!  How are the songs from Muthirai?
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
I have the album too. It was so good that there must have been other albums like it.

Have you'll noticed how many of the new films have the old songs in them, even a small part. I think it started with Sivaji having all those songs from Vasantha Maligai and some other films. Maybe that's why remixes are so popular now.
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
What I've learnt recently is that there are lots of good old songs but how are we supposed to know about them unless someone tells us about them. That's why the remixes are important to me cos I know I like to hear the original once I hear the remix.
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
That's how I got to watching more old films, Prenaven MY FRIEND. Seriously, if I didn't hear the song Ponmagal Vanthal I wouldn't have seen Sorgam and I would have missed out on such a great movie.
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
That's a good point because we the older folk know about these songs and we just automatically assume that everyone knows about it so if remixes are educating everyone about the old songs, I'm all for it.
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
There doesn't seem to be much remixes recently. Does this mean that it's not very popular? Do they have to get permission to remix a song or can they just use it. I read that TMS didn't like the remix of Ponmagal Vanthal.
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
One needs the permission of the copyright holder to remix the song. Most often, this is someone other than the singer.

Remixes have not been hugely successful, so many new music composers are reluctant to go down that road.
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
Many of the remixes will be better if they just modernised the song without the English words.
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
Hey, a good idea would be to take that song and tape it but leave out the English words!
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
I wish we could.
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
It's not all English parts that are a problem. If it blends in nicely with the song it's not a problem.
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
It's only now that people know about music composers and writers. Before this, a song was a ong and that was it.
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
And what's wrong with that?
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
i like remixes of old songs , it can attratct the older audience as well as bring in the younger people
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
I think the question is why do they need to remix old songs. Why not just create original modern songs. Are the music directors of today saying that they can't do better than the old songs?
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
Not necessary so. They are saying that they paying tribute to those songs.
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
i like the remix in atm
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
The only thing it's too short.
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
It's been a long time since we had a remix, isn't it?
WILL REMIXES REVIVE INTEREST IN OLD TAMIL SONGS?
